History of M.O.V.E
1970's
A group of volunteer leaders, the Director of the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Chief of Voluntary Service at the VA Hospital begin to meet monthly to share information and resources.
1982-1983
The group became autonomous from the VAC, formed their first Board of Directors, and wrote bylaws. During this time the group went through several names including Volunteer Coordinators Council and VIPS - Volunteers in Program Services.
1984
The organizations name is officially changed to DOVIA - Directors of Volunteers in Agencies, in order to connect with regional and national groups of the same name. At it's height DOVIA:
2009-2010
In the early 2000's DOVIAs membership had diminished to under 20 members with only five attending regular meetings. Community members were surveyed for their input and efforts began to revitalize the organization
2011-2012
The organization is re-branded as MOVE - Managers of Volunteer Engagement with renewed interest from local volunteer managers and community members. New logo is created and organization is officially accepted by Washburn Law Clinic to begin working on 501(c)3.
2019
MOVE Board of Directors vote to re-establish a professional development scholarship fund and award the first grant for a member to pursue her CVA - Certification in Volunteer Administration.
2020
MOVE utilized a virtual platform during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic to assist volunteer managers and non-profits with the ever changing landscape of serving during a pandemic.
2022
In 2022-2023 MOVE is moving back to in-person meeting with a virtual option to accommodate more members. In addition, we look forward to adding more professional development opportunities, networking events and resources to our membership offerings.
